When we are closed
Please call 999 in an emergency or use the NHS 111 online service or call 111 (if you cannot get help online). There is more information on urgent care and out of hours services including our local urgent treatment centre under Urgent Care And Out Of Hours.
How to contact 111 if you have a hearing problem or need help in other languages
GP practices are working together in this area, to offer patients better access to appointments. This is known as the “Enhanced Access” Service. This means that you can now book an appointment at Burnham Health Centre outside of our usual opening hours.
All appointments need to be pre-booked in advance.
Telephone Burnham Health Centre as normal. If no appointments are available, you may be offered an “Enhanced Access” appointment. The reception staff will be able to tell you what time and day there are available appointments. You may also request an “Enhanced Access” appointment if that is more convenient for you. Our reception staff can give you more information about the service and book your appointments.
“Enhanced Access” is not a walk-in service – if you need urgent medical advice after 6.30pm, please phone NHS 111. NHS 111 will enable you to talk to a GP and book an urgent GP appointment if necessary.
Under Our primary care Network we explain how our practice is working with other local practices to improve services to local patients (in this case access to general practice).
We are closed at weekends and on bank holidays and 10 afternoons in the year for staff training. Further information on closures including the dates is covered below. We also explain what to do when the surgery is closed (out of hours).
Protected learning time – mandatory training
Following national guidance the surgery closes 10 afternoons in the year to allow clinical and administrative staff to complete mandatory training (such as CPR training), ensure clinicians remain clinically up to date with both national and local guideline changes and to review our functioning as a practice.
On a protected learning time afternoon, the practice closes at 12:30.
The dates for protected learning (staff training) times in 2024/2025 include:
